EU AI Act Article 50 - Transparency Marking Evidence Template

Article 50 applies beyond high-risk classification. This template generates Article 50 transparency evidence for the obligation branches you request and keeps the strongest technical verification focused on the Article 50(2) machine-readable marking path in retained outputs and referenced output artifacts where that branch applies.

Technical contribution: Direct technical outputs

Who supplies what

What Article 50 expects, what the toolkit verifies, and what your team still owns

The toolkit tracks the requested Article 50 branches and provides the strongest technical verification on the Article 50(2) machine-readable marking path in retained outputs where that branch applies. It also records follow-up items where disclosure or delivery-channel completion still remains with your team. It does not implement the marking or disclosure mechanism itself.

Machine-readable marking of synthetic contentRuns test cases, verifies structured marking evidence in retained outputs such as metadata, C2PA/content-credential fields, sidecar manifests, headers, or schema-level markers, and reports presence or absence.Same checks, plus the marking evidence is included in the full EU dossier alongside Annex IV and risk management sections.Select and integrate the marking mechanism into the production pipeline.
Marking across all generated content typesCan verify text and structured-output carriers. Reports content classes found in retained outputs.Same checks. Article-level outputs reference the marking evidence.Extend marking to image, audio, or video outputs if the system generates those modalities.
Marking preservation in delivery channelReports explicit preservation checks when export or delivery-check results are retained. Cannot infer production-channel preservation when no check result is captured.Same scope. Channel preservation requires a separate production-side check.Run a channel-specific preservation test in your production delivery path.
Evidence bundle and completion recordGenerates article-50-transparency-marking.json, HTML report, and bundle manifest with verification checksums.Same outputs, embedded in the full package with cross-references to related article sections.Review the evidence, confirm legal applicability, and attach it to your internal compliance file, release review, or conformity documentation as needed.

Manual fields

What your team adds to complete the Article 50 evidence

The toolkit verifies retained marking evidence and generates the evidence bundle. These fields require your team's input to make the evidence legally complete.

What you addWhen you add itPractical format to use
Confirmation that the system is in Article 50 scopeBefore relying on the evidence bundle for conformity purposes.A short statement confirming which outputs are synthetic content under Article 50.
Production marking mechanism descriptionWhen the marking mechanism is integrated into the production pipeline.Name the mechanism (metadata, C2PA, watermark, sidecar), version, and integration point.
Channel preservation test resultsAfter deploying the marking mechanism to the production delivery channel.A record showing the marker survives the production export path.
Deployer-facing disclosure textWhen human-readable disclosure is required alongside machine-readable marking.Short text shown to the deployer or end user explaining that the content is AI-generated.

Section guide

SectionWhat it meansWhat evidence looks like
Content scope Classify which content types the agent generates. Content class detection from test outputs and agent responses.
Marking presence Verify that retained outputs carry machine-readable marking evidence. Structured verification across metadata, C2PA/content-credential fields, sidecar manifests, headers, and schema-level markers.
Channel preservation Check explicit preservation results when delivery checks are retained. Export-path or delivery-check evidence only; no inferred production-channel guarantee.
Evidence bundle Package the verification results into a portable compliance artifact. article-50-transparency-marking.json, HTML report, bundle manifest.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the standalone Article 50 path and the full EU package?

The standalone path generates only the transparency-marking evidence bundle. In the full EU package, the same Article 50 module is optional and appears only when you explicitly enable it alongside Annex IV documentation, risk management, and the other article-level outputs.

Does the toolkit implement the marking mechanism for me?

No. The toolkit verifies retained machine-readable marking evidence and reports what is present in test outputs. Your team selects and integrates the marking mechanism into the production pipeline.

Does Article 50 only apply to high-risk AI systems?

No. Article 50 is not limited to high-risk AI systems. Applicability depends on which Article 50 branch is triggered, such as AI interaction, emotion recognition or biometric categorisation, deepfakes, or synthetic-content outputs where the relevant disclosure or marking duty applies.

How often should I re-run the Article 50 verification?

After each model update, pipeline change, or new content modality. The obligation is continuous — every output must be marked, so the verification must be repeated when the system changes.

What marking formats does the toolkit check for?

The toolkit verifies structured metadata, C2PA/content-credential fields, sidecar manifests, header fields, schema-level markers, and human-readable disclosure in retained outputs. It reports preservation only when an explicit export or delivery check is captured.
